January Pack Meeting
Pine Wood Derby Race
We're looking for 100% participation. Your scout will not want to miss this.
Check in time is 5pm Monday, January 28th in the Pack meeting room.

These are the rules for our Cub Scout Pack 57 Pinewood Derby race.
Rules may differ from other printings you've seen, so be sure to read and abide by these rules for our race.
ALL CARS MUST PASS INSPECTION TO QUALIFY FOR THE RACE
Each car must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it will be allowed to compete.
The Inspection Committee has the responsibility to disqualify those cars that do not meet these specifications.
Any disqualified car may be modified and resubmitted for inspection. Once car's pass inspection, they may not be
handled until their turn to race.
Inspection points
- The car weight shall not exceed 5.0 ounces. The official race scale shall be considered final.
- The overall length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches.
- The overall width of the car shall not exceed 2 ¾ inches.
- The car must have 1 ¾” clearance between the wheels.
- The car must have 3/8” clearance underneath the body.
- The wood provided in the kit must be used. The block may be shaped any way that is desired.
- The wheels supplied with the kit must be used. The wheels may not be cut, drilled, beveled or rounded. You may remove the seam from the wheels.
- The axles supplied with the kit must be used. They may be polished or lubricated.
- Wheel bearings, washers or bushings are prohibited.
- The car must not ride on any type of springs.
- The car must be freewheeling, with no starting devices.
- No loose material of any kind, such as lead shot or liquid, may be used. (No moving parts but the wheels)
- Details such as the steering wheel, driver, decals, painting, and interior detail are permissible as long as these details do not exceed the maximum length, width, and weight specifications.
- Construction of ALL entries MUST have begun AFTER last year's races.
- Only one car may be registered by any person in the Pinewood Derby.
Rules governing the race:
- The TrackMaster has full authority in all decision. Any poor sportsmanship involving the TrackMaster or any member of the Track Committee will result in immediate disqualification and full elimination from the race.
- The Finish line judges decision is final. At the judges discretion, should they not be able to agree, they may may order the race to be rerun.
- If, during a race, a car leaves the track without interfering with its opponent, it shall be considered to have ended its heat at that point.
- If, during a race, no car reaches the finish line on the track, the car which went the farthest in its lane shall be declared as the heat winner.
- If, during a race, a car leaves its lane and, in so doing, interferes with another racer, then the car at fault shall be declared to have lost the race heat unless the track is found at fault.
- If a car leaves its lane, at his sole discretion, the TrackMaster may inspect the track and, if a track fault is found which probably caused the initial violation, the TrackMaster may order the race to be rerun after the track is repaired.
- Only dry lubricants such as graphite or powdered teflon "white lube" will be allowed for lubricating the wheels. Lubricants may not foul the track.
- Lubrication is allowed while the racer is in "The Pit" during the race before his. No other modification is allowed. Cars are subject to reinspection at their discretion by any member of the Track Committee.
- Racers "Pit Time" starts when they are called to "The Pit" and ends when they are called to race. If a racer does not report to "The Pit" when called, no additional time will be allotted.
- No time will be allowed in "The Pit" for rerun races and the cars will run the same lane.
- The Cub Racers will be responsible for transporting their cars from "The Pit" to the track and from the finish line to "The Pit". Parents are encouraged to join the Cub in "The Pit" and in the track area with the Cub, but not allowed to transport the car.
